The AOC Montagne-Saint-Emilion is a division of the Saint-Emilion appellation and is part of the Libournais region. It is located in the extension of the vineyards of Saint-Emilion to the north, on the right bank of the Barbanne. The largest municipality in the region, Montagne Saint-Emilion covers around 1,600 ha and produces 75,000 hl of red wines each year.
The variety of the Montagne-Saint-Emilion terroirs is reflected in the wines. We distinguish those produced on clay-limestone soils, characteristic of the coasts by their robustness. Wines produced on more gravelly soils gain in finesse. The grape varieties from which the wines are made are the same as those required by the Saint-Emilion appellation, namely merlot, cabernet franc and cabernet-sauvignon.
